The Harvest

The most important season for any farmer is the harvest. It is something they work toward all year long. Can you imagine if they only started preparing a few days or weeks before it was time to gather their crops? There wouldn’t be any fruits or vegetables to harvest.
There is an important lesson in this. People often set goals and expect to see progress overnight. But just like farming, achieving any meaningful goal most likely takes months, if not years, of hard work. Trying to rush success or procrastinating on the work that needs to be done won't help you achieve your goals. In fact, it will only hinder your progress.
In Tang Soo Do, the belt colors represent the seasons, with black belt representing autumn and your black belt test representing the harvest. Oftentimes, students only really start preparing when they realize the test is approaching. If they had trained more seriously from day one, the test would feel much easier. Let's take some time to think about our long-term goals and start working toward them with our full effort from the very beginning.
