Mental Growth & Physical Health

Student Creed 1: I intend to develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that would impair my mental growth or physical health.
Last week was our Kick-A-Thon for Mental Health, and we talked a lot about how our mental health affects all of us and what we can do to help keep our mental health positive and healthy. Mental health goes hand in hand with our physical health, just as we state in every class through Student Creed 1.
When you think about your physical health, you think about eating healthy, exercising, and going to the doctor. The truth is that those things can also help your mental health. For some reason, people often treat physical health as more important, but the truth is that both are necessary parts of living a healthy life.
That is why martial arts is so great. Yes, we work on the physical aspects of training: hard workouts with sweaty exercises, tough sparring sessions, and constant movement. But we also train the mind. Developing focus, meditation, and positive thinking are things that we constantly incorporate into our training. Once again, these things go hand in hand with our physical development.
So, that is the question this week: Do you focus more on the mental or physical aspects of martial arts? How are you developing both to become the strongest person you can be—mentally, physically, and emotionally?
Want to develop the mind and body? Martial arts training can help.
